So, with exactly 1 month left to go before we set off, what's happened since the last post. Well, not a great deal, is the answer. On the planning front, I updated my Tomtom routes to add more waypoints, which should now prevent me/us from straying off the intended route.
Ginny had some new boots fitted. I made the decision to swap from Bridgestone BT23s, onto Michelin Road 6s, after reading reviews and chatting with Phil, my other biking chum, who has them on his RT1250. They were a more expensive option but grip and longevity are supposed to be really good. We shall see. There was a snag though, initially. First time on the motorway, I could feel the front bouncing about. It felt like there was no balancing weights. In my experience, it is unusual for a new tyre not to need balancing. Sure enough, when I got home, I checked and found no weights. I took Ginny back to Ryder M/Cs and got them to redo them. Second time around, with weights, it felt better.
After the tyres, Ginny went in for her yearly service at Mark Holden M/Cs in Bromley. I was discussing the tyre situation with Mark, when he spotted some rust dust around the front wheel spindle. "Looks like the wheel bearings are shot", he said. So, on top of the service, he replaced the bearings. They hadn't gone but were on their way out. Whilst the wheel was out, he checked the balancing and found it to be spot on, though the tyre pressure was down 6psi. I had found that, when the tyres were replaced but hadn't thought to check after the 're-balancing'. That's Ginny all ready to go.
In the mean time, over the water, Grizzly has had the Shadslow prepped but unfortunately, in a slight incident, has broken the original Honda screen. Speaking to him yesterday, he's struggled to find a genuine replacement. The one he has got, he was tweaking, to make sure it is at the right height for him. As he's a bit of a short arse, that shouldn't be too hard! 😉
And that's the latest news. Next post may well be when we are on the road.
Cheers
