Day 10, Olympia to Epidaurus

Having spent hours looking at what is essentially a lot of rubble at Olympia, we decided we wouldn't bother with Mycenae or the Temple of Asklepion at Epidaurus, instead opting to go direct to our digs, and in doing so, saving mileage/fuel.

The trip across the peninsular was both mountainous and very warm. It's getting a bit boring now.
The roads in general were pretty good and of course as we were going over the mountains, there were few twisties thrown in. We made the now essential shade/drink stops and took it nice and steady, so as not to arrive too early. Check-in was 14:00 and we arrived about 14:20. The host was out to greet us even before we had switched off, a very nice lady, she spoke very good English.

She spotted Grizzly's Irish number plate and said she knew someone from Cork. When I said Grizzly was from Cork, the inevitable question came, do you know?......  As it happens though, Grizzly knows the pub, this lady's friend owns or used to. She said she lost touch about 10 years back. Small world.

She showed us to our room, which is a studio, so has a little kitchen area. Out of the patio doors, was the most beautiful view. No craning our necks here, this was as sold, with a sea view. It is idyllic.

Whilst Grizzly was freshening up, I decided the best way to cool off was to have a dip in the Aegean Sea. So I threw on my swim shorts and went in search of the beach. I found it about 300 metres away. Not great, being pebbley but I was more interested in the clear turquoise waters. As I slipped off my trainers and stepped onto the pebbles, my feet were instantly burning, so I had to make a dash for the water. Ouch!

I spent about 20 minutes or so doing some floating and a few 25m lengths, before making the dash back to my shoes. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! I sat for a while to dry off (no towel), then made my way back, dropping in on a campsite taverna, to check what time they opened.

Later, that was where we made our way to for dinner. We'd not been able to find anywhere to have lunch, so we ate just after 18:00. Note: 2 more beers. 20 now? The day ended with us sitting on the balcony admiring the view. Grizzly said if he'd had his dog with him, he'd stay. It is a beautiful setting. At 21:00 the temperature was still 32 degrees. No let-up yet.

A few pics.

Tomorrow we move away from the beautiful turquoise sea to the hustle and bustle of the capital. We have 2 nights there and will be doing the sights on Friday.

Till then.
